Brick Lane and Shoreditch: Sunday

Mixed Crowd walking down Brick Lane on a sunny afternoon

Every time I go to Shoreditch I see evidence of the City’s encroaching wealth. The signs of creeping gentrification are everywhere: from boutique fashion shops to gleaming luxury apartments, through carefully staged pop-up venues and finally to Microsoft ads posing as street art.

Still, amongst the trendy cocktail bars and chic hotels a lot of the old East End remains. There are still rustic wine bars and street food and graffiti and all those things that – together with the trendy and new – add up to make this my favourite London neighbourhood.

Here are some scenes from today in Brick Lane and surrounding streets.

Thanks Vadge. It is nice to have a camera again that works properly though. At least I won’t have to steal yours for taking pics of drag queens in the George & Dragon next time!
